Slaven Bilic admits he faces another 'do-or-die' week after West Ham's 'surprising' early-season struggles

“Of course we didn't expect this. You are always going to find what some people will call excuses, but if you ask me they can be reasons too.

“We had a very tough start with three away games. But against Brighton, we didn't expect this at all.

“Of course we expect much better. But it hasn't happened and it's down to us to do it. Me and the team.”

Bilic's saving grace is that he can call upon his vast experience of dealing with pressurised situations in the past.

His desire and belief in overcoming another challenge is a motivational tool the manager admits he is desperate to pass down to his squad.

“It's very important,” Bilic added.

“It's a very important couple of games for us but then after that it's going to be again another couple of important games for West Ham.

“We are in that situation. They are very important games because you don't want to be in this situation for a long time and you want to get out of this as soon as possible.

“We have to face it and we have to get out of it.”
